It does not provide a complete feature class of vegetation for any county.  Vegetation polygons are coded based on species (which includes old growth versus second growth), tree size class, and canopy class. Minimum mapping unit is 40 acres.</abstract><purpose>The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF), Forest and Rangeland Resources Assessment Program (FRRAP) established and funded the project to assist in  developing a system to access and monitor the extent, condition, and use of California's redwood lands. Concerns over the level of protection and harvesting of redwood old growth created an acute need to have a  clear understanding of the amount, ownership, and spatial arrangement of remaining old growth stands.</purpose><supplinf>CDF documentation and data at
