Where TIGER is based on DLG, the accuracy is good, however, where TIGER uses GBF/DIME, the accuracy can be poor. From there it was developed using the 1990 Census Federal place code boundaries that were originally clipped by the county boundaries. The clipped boundaries were merged to a statewide feature class and are now continuously updated with the latest new city additions and annexations from LAFCO. The cities 08 feature class source is the US Department of Commerce Census Bureau TIGER/Line on magnetic tape. From there it was developed using the 1990 Census Federal place code boundaries that were originally clipped by the county boundaries. The clipped boundaries were merged to a statewide feature class and are now continuously updated with the latest new city additions and annexations from LAFCO. The process used to merge and start updating the boundaries was done using ArcInfo 5.0.1 and Arcedit. In 2005 the updates were done ArcGis using the hand digitizing method.
