We are the "Pathway to Information" so it is natural that many people come to us to help them find data, whether it is Caltrans' data or data from external sources. We have compiled the list below to help with questions our customers ask us frequently. This is not a comprehensive list. We will be updating it constantly.

- What is happening to TSI with the Reorganization?
Two of the Division of TSI offices, Office of Data Analysis and GIS and Office of Highway System Information and Performance have merged with Division of Research and Innovation to become Division of Research, Innovation, and System Information (DRISI). One of our Offices, the Office of Travel Forecasting and Analysis, has merged with Division of Transportation Planning (DOTP).
We will try to make these changes as transparent as possible while maintaining our regular great customer service. We will keep you posted as the merger proceeds. - Where can I find State Highway miles and Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT)? California Motor Vehicle Stock Travel, and Fuel Forecast (MVSTAFF). This annual report estimates and forecasts the annual statewide and countywide number of vehicles, vehicle miles of travel (VMT), vehicle fuel consumption (VFC), and miles per gallon (MPG).http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/tsip/otfa/tab/mvstaff.html

- Where can I find more freeway data? Caltrans Performance Measurement System (PeMS) The traffic data displayed on the map is collected in real-time from over 25,000 individual detectors. These sensors span the freeway system across all major metropolitan areas of the State of California.

- Where can I find a monthly estimate of Vehicle Miles Traveled? The Traffic Data Branch produces a monthly Vehicle Miles of Travel (VMT) report (also called the "Trend" report). This report estimates the number of vehicle miles that motorists traveled on California State Highways. On this same site you will find monthly trends going back to 1972.
