Planning on Track
The Office of Workforce Development is offering a series of courses called Planning on Track (PLOT). These courses will take place both in a classroom setting, and on Amtrak trains, and the purpose is to explore the connections between Rail Planning, Land Use and Caltrans’ Core Planning Areas. Speak to your (PDL) if you are interested in this series of courses.
Prerequisites: Completion of the basic Transportation Planning Academy or equivalent experience.
Capital Corridor PLOT
This class examines transit systems and connectivity in the Bay Area. It will take place both on transit systems and in a classroom setting, and will include discussions on passenger rail, commuter rail, local transit agencies. In addition, it will include presentations by representatives from BART and by the SF Airport's Airtrain (a very small scale, but very effective transit system). Participants will leave this class with an idea of how the various systems function together and with experience navigating these systems. The training will include an overnight stay in San Jose. Upcoming Planning of Track Deliveries:
San Joaquin Route
This class will address Passenger Rail planning and development issues, transportation alternatives, and related land use and environmental considerations. It will also explore the role of Caltrans planners and where they can participate in or advocate the decision making process. (see the SJ PLOT Agenda for additional detail). This class involves both classroom instruction, and instruction on the San Joaquin route of the Amtrak train. It will begin in Sacramento, travel to Hanford for additional instruction and an overnight stay, and will return to Sacramento. There are currently no deliveries of this course scheduled.
