2002 International Aviation Art Contest Winners
California Contest Winners and Honorable Mentions:
"The Federation Aeronautique Internationale, based in Paris, France, has sponsored the International Aviation Art Contest in cooperation with the National Association of State Aviation Officials and its 50 member states, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Aeronautic Association. In 2002, the FAA Western-Pacific Region coordinated the state segment of the contest, in cooperation with the California Department of Transportation's Division of Aeronautics, numerous airports, schools, teachers, aviation organizations, county offices of education, and artists. Student winners represented several of California's regions, including Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego, and Los Angeles.
"The purpose of the competition is to stimulate
students' interest in aviation, consider aviation careers,
and increase public awareness of the benefits of aviation
and aerospace. The contest's theme in 2002 was "Silent
Flight". The students' artworks are in three groups:
Category I (ages 6-9), Category II (ages 10-13), and
Category III (ages 14-17). California's nine first,
second, and third place winning artworks were submitted
for the national segment of the contest, which resulted
in a national winner: Jenny Chen (Category I), Second
Place, National.
"Congratulations to all the participants! We wish
you success in your future endeavors!"
