The Office of Aviation Planning performs the following functions:
- Develop State aviation planning policies and participate in Federal planning policies development
- Participate in intermodal planning and regional aviation system planning with cities, counties, MPOs, RTPAs and various Caltrans Divisions and Districts statewide
- Review, comment and develop guidelines for aviation-related activities in MPO and RTPA’s Regional Transportation Plans, Overall Work Programs, and city and county’s airport master plans
- Update California Aviation System Plan elements: Policy Element, Inventory Element, General Aviation System Needs Assessment Element (2012 Update)
- Develop and publish the California Airport Land Use Planning Handbook (Handbook)
- Review and comment on Airport Land Use Compatibility Plans (ALUCPs) and city and county land use decision override letters regarding the ALUCP
- Analyze aviation’s influence on the State’s economy (Aviation in California Fact Sheet)
- Aviation liaison for Caltrans Divisions and Districts including aviation-related research activities, transportation system planning information, and aviation related goods movement planning
- Pursue State and Federal grants to facilitate aviation system advancement
- Collect and disseminate aviation statistics
- Analyze and monitor Federal and State aviation legislation
