DISTRICT 12 MORE THAN $900 MILLION IN FUNDING ALLOCATED TO DRIVE STATE'S ECONOMIC GROWTH AND IMPROVE TRANSPORTATION

IRVINE - Continuing the push to rebuild California’s infrastructure and spur job growth, the California Transportation Commission (CTC) has allocated more than $900 million to 61 transportation projects statewide.

“Proposition 1B continues to provide the vital funding we need for transportation projects that relieve traffic congestion and improve the quality of life for all Californians,” said Acting Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “Investing in our infrastructure is strengthening our economy at a time when we need it the most.”

Approximately $800 million in funding was provided by Proposition 1B, a transportation bond approved by voters in 2006. The remaining allocations came from assorted state and federal transportation accounts. In total, about $12 billion in Proposition 1B funds have been distributed statewide.

The most notable local project that received funding was the Interstate 5/State Route 74 Interchange Reconstruction project in San Juan Capistrano. The project received a total of $40.1 million; $30.9 million from Proposition 1B and $9.2 million from the State Transportation Improvement Program. In addition to these CTC allocations, the County of Orange contributed $4 million to this project. The project will alleviate congestion along SR-74 (Ortega Hwy) and the I-5 freeway on and off ramps, improve travel times on the local and regional transportation system, and facilitate traffic flow.

Overall, Orange County received a total of $42.8 million in funding allocations, which included two landscaping projects in the cities of Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo, and Pacific Surfliner maintenance of way spurs in the cities of Anaheim and Laguna Niguel.

Please see the attached file for more information about all projects that have received allocations.
