CTC ALLOCATES $101 MILLION TO EXPAND STATE'S ECONOMY AND IMPROVE TRANSPORTATION

Irvine– The California Transportation Commission (CTC) today allocated $101 million in funding to 90 projects to improve transportation statewide.

“From one end of the state to the other, transportation projects are providing jobs and improving mobility for people and businesses in California,” said Caltrans Director Cindy McKim.

Highlights of the project allocations include:

  • $9.5 million to construct an auxiliary lane on SR-55 between Dyer Road and Edinger Avenue
  • $3.4 million to make various enhancements and improvements to local streets off the state highway system in the cities of Garden Grove, Fountain Valley, Lake Forest, and Seal Beach

The CTC also approved the first phase of the Interstate 805 Managed Lanes North in San Diego County as the ninth design-build project under landmark state legislation (SBX2 4) signed in 2009. The legislation provided for a pilot program for the design-build method of procurement, which combines both design and construction into one contract to expedite the construction process and potentially reduce project costs.
The I-805 Managed Lanes North project will be built in five phases at a cost of approximately $615 million. Caltrans anticipates the project will be completed nine months earlier using design-build. The expedited construction schedule will bring more jobs to San Diego County sooner than expected.
