CALTRANS HONORS FALLEN HIGHWAY WORKERS AT 19th ANNUAL MEMORIAL AT THE STATE CAPITOL
Sacramento - Today, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) gathered to remember fallen colleagues during the 19th annual Workers Memorial on the west steps of the State Capitol. This year, Caltrans commemorates the loss of Muoi Tran, bringing the total to 171 workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1924.
"We gather to honor the legacies of all who have given their lives while maintaining the state's highway system," said Business, Transportation, and Housing Agency Secretary Dale E. Bonner. "It is heartening to have surviving family members with us each year, while we offer a fitting tribute to those we remember."
"This year's memorial is a tribute to those we have lost and a reminder that we must do everything possible to make our state's highways safe," said Caltrans Director Will Kempton. "Please slow for the cone zone so our highway workers can remain safe."
Speakers included State Senator Alan Lowenthal.
