NEW PACIFIC SURFLINER TRAIN BEGINS SERVICE
BETWEEN LOS ANGELES AND SAN LUIS OBISPO

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), Amtrak and Metrolink will inaugurate a new Pacific Surfliner train Wednesday, November 17, to operate daily service between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo. The new morning departure takes over a time slot previously filled by Metrolink. As part of the agreement with Metrolink, the new Pacific Surfliner train will continue to serve the Metrolink stop at downtown Burbank.

“Thanks to our partnership, Caltrans, Amtrak and Metrolink have added a second Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo roundtrip train,” said Will Kempton, Caltrans Director. “The new train will provide another alternative for drivers using Highway 101, and it opens up more rail travel opportunities than ever before between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo."

Special inauguration ceremonies at a station in each of the four counties served by the new train will include state and local officials as the train makes its inaugural trip. Ceremonies will be held at 7:00 a.m. in Los Angeles prior to the departure at 7:30 a.m.; in Oxnard beginning at 8:50 a.m.; in Santa Barbara at 9:30 a.m.; and in San Luis Obispo to greet the train upon its arrival at 12:45 p.m.

The new train gives Los Angeles and Ventura County passengers another opportunity to participate in the popular Rail2Rail cross-ticketing program. Metrolink monthly pass holders may ride Pacific Surfliner trains within the limits of their monthly pass at no extra cost. Pacific Surfliner ticket holders may ride Metrolink trains within the limit of their ticket at no extra charge.

The new train is the fifth daily roundtrip to serve Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara counties and the second daily roundtrip to continue to San Luis Obispo. There are 11 daily roundtrip Pacific Surfliner trains in service between Los Angeles and San Diego and a 12th on weekends.

The morning northbound departure of the new train (#799) leaves Los Angeles at 7:30 a.m. and arrives in Santa Barbara at 10:13 a.m. and San Luis Obispo at 12:45 p.m. The return southbound train (#798) departs San Luis Obispo at 1:20 p.m., Santa Barbara at 4:05 p.m. and arrives in Los Angeles at 7:10 p.m. Intermediate stops include (from Los Angeles) Glendale, Downtown Burbank, Burbank Airport, Van Nuys, Northridge, Chatsworth, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard, Ventura, Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Goleta, Lompoc-Surf, Guadalupe-Santa Maria, Grover Beach and San Luis Obispo.
