Inquiry #7: Special Provisions Section 40-1.03K requires pavement s to have profile index of 2 ½ inches per 0.1 mile section for contract acceptance.
Caltrans is requiring a tolerance for finish pavement that is not achievable on retro-fit paving projects. The existing pavements, even after grinding the 3 foot adjacent to new pavements still have the potential of rocking as the weight of the paver crosses it. These new requirements will undoubtedly add significant additional cost and lessen the life of the pavements. Can Caltrans Clarify this is the intent of the change to the Specification?
