Inquiry #1: Please clarify the areas needing shoulder backing and provide a detail. The typicals show paving from barrier to barrier.
If there were a shoulder, and we were to use the quantity shown in the locations per the chart on Q-1, we would need to only place 3 to 10 cubic inches per lineal foot.

Response #2:To clarify, this is a grind and resurface AC project, meaning we are only grinding 0.1' of AC and placing back the same thickness, and shoulder backing is generally not needed; however, we found that there were some areas (where dirt, not barrier to barrier locations) where the edge of shoulder (ES) is exposed to a considerable amount, meaning lack of or not enough shoulder backing, we decided that these are the locations where shoulder backing is needed. Sheet Q-1, Roadway Quantities shows such locations, however, they are spot locations only, not through out, e.g. RUDGEAR RD UC TO S MAIN ST UC, PM R12.7 TO 13.1, only locations where insufficient shoulder backing would require shoulder backing, not through out the post mile of 12.7 to 13.1.

Inquiry #2: Section 15-2.02(3)(a) states HMA must be placed before reopening the area to traffic. Does this apply only to locally failed area repair or does it also apply to the cold plane and HMA-0 placement ?
