Inquiry #2: 1. Do we have to remove asphalt for new Textured paving or does the textured paving start at the edge of asphalt?

2. There are 5' and 10' wide texture paving sections along slopes that are 2:1 or greater. Please provide direction on how to contain the slope for textured concrete to be placed.

3. During our site visit, we noticed many existing irrigation control valves and pull boxes that are within the textured paving areas. Are we to include all relocation of existing utilities and valve boxes?

Inquiry submitted 08/02/2013

Response #1:1)No, the new textured paving will start at the edge of asphalt. 2) No steep slopes within project limit. How to construct is up to contractor whom bid for it. 3) Several of them at ramp entrances, and they are at finish grade or at same top of curb. New textured paving will go around them, or contractor will adjust on field when pour concrete.

Inquiry #3: 1. During our site visit, we noticed that there is existing asphalt in areas that the new textured paving is being placed. Is this to be removed? What bid item is this to be paid?

2. We also noticed that there are many existing irrigation control valves and pull boxes within the new textured paving layout areas. They will have to be adjusted prior to placement of textured paving. What bid item is this to be paid?

3. The detail for textured paving within gore areas are not clear. Are we to include any excavation and/or compaction? Is the 15" broom finish band placed at 3 1/2" thick?

Inquiry #4: 1. During our site visit, we noticed that there is existing asphalt in areas that the new textured paving is being placed. Are we to include removal of this asphalt? What bid item is this to be paid? What is the depth of existing asphalt?

2. We also noticed that there are many existing irrigation control valves and pull boxes within the new textured paving areas. This will require adjusting prior to placement of textured paving. What bid item is this to be paid?

3. The detail for the textured paving in gore areas are not clear. Is the 15" broom finish band to be 3 1/2" deep? Are we to include excavation and sub-grade prep to 3 1/2" for the entire area? Pavement layout detail on sheet C-1 is missing the section A-A. Please provide.

Inquiry submitted 08/05/2013

Response #1:1) Textured paving begins at edge of asphalt, no need to remove existing asphalt.2) adjust accordingly if occurred and needed. 3) 15” broom finish band starts out with 3 ½” deep. Excavation to meet exist grade at edge. The band will meet existing grade after 15”, so there no excavation after the band. Excavation is at band area only, not the entire pavement area.
