Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Program
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices, in providing access to its programs, services, activities, or in treatment of individuals.
Caltrans makes every effort to ensure equal employment opportunities for employees and applicants, including those with a disability, by providing access opportunities to its programs, services, and activities. Caltrans with its partners, identifies accessibility deficiencies and addresses those over which it has control. Caltrans has created an ADA Infrastructure program to address ADA related access to Caltrans infrastructure such as sidewalks, signals, park and ride lots, etc. .
WHAT DOES EQUAL ACCESS MEAN?
Equal access means compliance with all federal and State laws that prohibit discrimination against persons with disabilities, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Fair Employment and Housing Act, and California Government Code Sections 11135 through 11139.7.
Caltrans will make every effort to:
- Make all reasonable modifications to its policies and procedures to ensure persons with disabilities have equal access to Caltrans programs, services, and activities.
- Provide,upon request, appropriate aids, and accommodations, to support effective communication for persons with disabilities, so that they can participate equally in Caltrans programs, services, and activities at no cost to the individual.
- Address inquiries and resolve accessibility grievances related to Caltrans programs, services and activities.

Please contact the Statewide ADA Coordinator or the District ADA Liaison if you are a person with a disability and you are not able to, or experience difficulty in, accessing our programs, services and/or employment, or feel that you have been discriminated against under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, or the Fair Employment and Housing Act.

The ten regional ADA Centers are a comprehensive resource on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), providing information on issues in employment, state and local government services, public accommodations, and communications. The ADA Network offers the following core services:
- Technical Assistance: Answer questions about the ADA via a national toll free hotline at 1-800-949-4232 [Voice/TTY]. All calls are strictly confidential.
- Education and Training: Provide customized training and distance education opportunities about the ADA and disability-related laws to disability organizations, State and local government agencies, and private businesses.
- Materials Dissemination: Distribute publications with accurate information about the ADA. Provide up to date ADA information via websites, email, discussion lists, newsletters, and printed materials.
- Information and Referral: Provide referrals to local organizations for advocacy assistance or issues outside of our work scope.
- Public Awareness: Promote the ADA in a positive manner in media outlets.
- Local Capacity Building: Work closely with local business, disability, governmental, rehabilitation, and other professional networks to assist with efforts in the local communities.
- Job Accommodation Network (JAN) is a service provided by the U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP). JAN provides free consultation to employers in order to:
- Increase the hiring, retention, and promotion of qualified employees with disabilities;
- Create accommodation solutions to benefit both employer and employee;
- Protect their business by educating employers about their responsibilities under the ADA, Rehabilitation Act and other disability related legislation;
- Reduce workers' compensation and other insurance costs; and
