Pre-Approved Nonstandard Special Provisions (NSSPs)

Pre-Approved nonstandard specifications are provided below for your use. Use of these NSSPs is pre-approved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the instructions for editing are followed.

General (Roadside Clearing and Weed Control)

SSP Instructions for Use
20-1.03C New

Section 20-1.03C. Use to specify weed control for roadside clearing and plant establishment. Edit as necessary to reflect project specific requirements.

The plant establishment standard specifications say to control weeds under section 20-1.03C(3).

Irrigation

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP_20-2.03B

Use to specify a different color for the backflow preventer blanket or backflow enclosure, or to leave the backflow enclosure unpainted stainless steel, or to not require that backflow preventer assemblies include blankets.

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

NSSP 20-2.05

Use this pre-approved non-standard specification to specify that (rather than 12-gauge) conductors (wires) be of the size recommended by the irrigation controller manufacturer.

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

NSSP 20-2.08D

Use this pre-approved non-standard specification together with a one-time bid item (XX" Schedule 40 Pipe Conduit) to pay for Plastic Pipe Conduit separate from Plastic Pipe Supply Line used as Irrigation Water Supply Line.

Use of this NSSP will receive concurrence from HQ LAP as long as your edits follow the specification instructions.

Planting

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP_20-3.03C(3)

Use for planting plants to specify that cuttings receive the fertilizer as shown on the plans, planting times for cuttings, liners, plugs, and seedling plants, if a root stimulant is not required for willow cuttings, and to change the height for mowing sod.

Use of this NSSP will receive concurrence from HQ LAP as long as your edits follow the specification instructions.

Landscape Elements

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP_20-5.03E

Use for wood mulch if soil sterilant and filter fabric are not required. Also use to indicate if wood mulch is to be placed on grade.

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

Erosion Control

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP 21-1.02E

Revised SSP that corrects the length for fiber used for both temporary and permanent hydromulch, hydroseeding, and Bonded Fiber Matrix (BFM). Use in all projects that include temporary and/or permanent erosion control.

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

NSSP_21-1.02M

Revised Compost Specification. Use to ensure better availability of materials and reduced trash content.

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

Irrigation Control Wire Placed on or Inside a Bridge Structure

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP 86-1.01

Recommended edit for jobs with irrigation control wire being placed on or in a structure. Use bid item 860774 or 860775 for sprinkler control conduit.
Also use NSSP 20-2.05 when you use this NSSP 86-1.01. (Include the length of irrigation control wire in the quantity counts for CNC bid item206560.)

Use of this NSSP is preapproved by the Landscape Architecture Program if the specification instructions for editing are followed.

 

Special Provisions Owned by Others

The standard special provisions (SSPs) listed below are frequently used by Landscape Architects, but these SSPs are owned by other functional units. They are listed here to provide convenient access to specifications that are frequently overlooked.

Roadside Paving (Minor Areas in Planting Projects)

SSP Instructions for Use
39-1.28 Use to specify minor roadside paving areas (Maintenance Vehicle Pullouts, narrow areas, paving beyond the gore area) for highway planting projects only. Use Bid Item 394095 "Roadside Paving (Miscellaneous Areas)".
39-1.29 Use to treat the soil underneath roadside paving for weed control. Payment for soil treatment is included in the payment for "Roadside Paving (Miscellaneous Areas)".

Staining Concrete, Rock, and Galvanized Surface SSPs

SSP Instructions for Use
59-7 Use for stained concrete or shotcrete.
59-11 Use for applying a Natina stain to galvanized surfaces. Do not use to stain aluminum or aluminized surfaces.
59-12 Use to add, delete, or replace miscellaneous clauses for Rock Staining.

Local Infrastructure SSPs for Water Meters

SSP Instructions for Use
NSSP 77-1 Water Meters - Use this non-standard specification as a template to specify the Contractor installation of water meters in accordance with the local water purveyor's specifications and details. Edit to include local requirements. Include a one-time non-standard bid item to cover labor and materials required to complete the work.
