Eraina Ortega

Inspector General

Eraina Ortega, Inspector General

Eraina Ortega was appointed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. to be the Inspector General of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) beginning in January, 2018. She leads the Independent Office of Audits and Investigations established by SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017.

Ms. Ortega previously served as Chief Deputy Director for Policy at the California Department of Finance where she represented the Director on numerous boards and commissions, including the State Public Works Board, California State Teachers’ Retirement System, and the State Allocation Board where she oversaw implementation of accountability measures for school construction bond funds. From 2008 to 2013, she worked at the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) as Senior Legislative Representative and she served from 2001 to 2008 as Manager and Legislative Advocate for the Judicial Council of California. Previously, Ms. Ortega was a fiscal and policy analyst for the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO).

Ms. Ortega earned a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of California, Irvine.
