Description: State Route 120,
is characterized by two distinct segments. The western segment of
SR-120 from its junction at US Hwy. 395 is designated as a scenic route.
It rises dramatically to an elevation of 9,941 ft. from its junction at
Hwy 395 to Yosemite’s Tioga Pass. Grades exceed 8% in spots on this
2-lane route. The shoulders widths along this western segment are
2 ft. between Vista Point and Tioga Pass and widen to 8 ft. between Vista
Point and US Hwy 395. The scenery is noted for its spectacular vistas,
with drop-offs exceeding 1,000 ft.
The eastern segment of SR-120 from US Hwy. 395 Jct. to Benton is less mountainous yet still features elevation differences positively daunting. The alignment consists of 2-lanes and 4 to 8 ft shoulders. Traffic is light featuring high chaparral with mountain vistas. Services
