Description: State Route 14 and US Highway 395, are varied in terrain. Beginning at the Los Angeles/Kern county line SR-14 is a freeway that transitions to an expressway south of the community of Mojave. SR-14 becomes a conventional 2-lane highway just north of Mojave, a 4-lane divided hwy. through the California City Intersection and a 4-lane divided hwy. to the top of Red Rock Canyon. SR-14 continues as a 2-lane conventional facility just past SR-178 (to Ridgecrest) and from there SR-14 continues as a 4-lane divided expressway to its junction at US Hwy. 395. US Hwy. 395 continues north at this juncture as a flat 4-lane divided expressway. The route features moderate grades with one particular sustained grade through Red Rock Canyon. Scenery is generally desert highland with some spectacular canyon vistas. Southbound bicyclists must exit at Silver Queen Road near Rosamond to use alternate routes.
