Description:  U.S. Highway 395, north from Coso Jct. to just south of Olancha is a 4-lane divided expressway.  Shoulders are wide and feature rumble strips. North of Olancha and continuing to Cottonwood Canyon the roadway is a conventional 2-lane facility, with shoulders varying from 2 to 4 feet.  From here it again becomes an expressway with four-lanes, wide shoulders and rumble strips.  This expressway continues approximately 4 miles north of the community of Lone Pine and from there it is a conventional 2-lane highway until it reaches the county seat of Independence.  Grades are flat, featuring desert highland terrain.   U.S. Highway 395 consistently gains elevation toward the north.    Services  Place Cafe Store Motel  Bike Shop Camp   Grounds Public   Showers Olancha X X X x x Cartago X X X   Lone Pine X X X   X   Independence x X x x Coso JCT  Highway Rest Stop
