Description:  US Highway 395, from Independence and north to the community of Big Pine is a 2-lane conventional facility with 4 to 8 ft.  shoulder widths.  Two short 4-lane sections, one immediately north of Independence and the other along Lake Tinnemaha complete this stretch.  North of Big Pine to the Mono county line the road becomes a 4-lane divided expressway.  Grades are very gentle but overall gain significant elevation.  Scenery consists of high desert scrub, riparian habitats and spectacular mountain ranges paralleling the highway.  Services  Place Cafe Store Motel Bike   Shop Camp   Grounds Public   Showers Big Pine X X X x x Bishop X X X  X x x Aberdeen X X     X X
