In April 2006, Caltrans began a $55 million project to widen State Route 60 from the SR-60/I-15 Interchange to the Valley Way Under crossing. When completed, the project will add one HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle/ Carpool) lane and one mixed flow lane to both the east and west bound SR-60. This enhancement will fix the missing link and provide commuters with 30 miles of continuous carpool lanes on SR-60 from Moreno Valley to Diamond Bar.
Caltrans and Yeager/Skanska have made great strides on this project. Months of hard work to widen and upgrade the roadway to ease congestion are now becoming visible. As of early November, the new eastbound lanes from Valley Way to Etiwanda (approximately 5 miles) have been paved and the sub-grade for the westbound lanes has been completed. Full completion of the project is expected in November 2007.
In order to minimize the congestion in the project area, construction is taking place at night and is typically comprised of lane reductions and ramp closures. Occasional full freeway closures are necessary to facilitate the movement of equipment. Visit the News and Document Center on this website for more details regarding the construction schedule and lane closures.
