Ground-Breaking Ceremony on State Route 99
K Street Off-Ramp Construction Project

Fresno – The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the beginning of construction on the K Street Off-Ramp Project in the City of Tulare. A Ground-Breaking ceremony at 11:00 a.m. will “kick-off” construction on Thursday, April 20, 2006.

This $3.1 million dollar project will remove the on and off ramps at K Street to State Route 99. K Street will be extended south as a frontage road to Avenue 200. The off-ramps at Avenue 200 will be extended northbound and southbound. A soundwall will be constructed adjacent to the RV park and mobile home park. This project will include lighting at the K Street / Avenue 200 Interchange. The overcrossing structure which spans southbound State Route 99 will be removed.

This project is scheduled to be completed in late Summer of 2006. Plant establishment/landscaping will follow construction.

During construction, the public is reminded of the following safety precautions:

• Do not speed in Construction Work Zones; obey the posted speed limits.
• Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
• Watch for workers; drive with caution.
• Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
• Avoid using mobile phones while driving in Construction Work Zones.
• Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
• Be especially alert at night while driving in Construction Work Zones.
• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
• Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
• Anticipate lane changes, and merge when directed to do so.
• Be Patient!
