Q1) With the speed of traffic going on to the NB off ramp at 99 to NB 65 ,during one lane construction activities, will be hazardous to the traveling public and to construction personnel.Sugestion: Contractor to be allowed to close this ramp off during the hours depicted in chart 1 of 3 and temporally route traffic to the 7th Standard off ramp to get to SH 65. The above work should be performed either prior to starting or after completing the work depicted in chart 3 of 3 on page 64.

Q2) Is it the intent of the disposal of planed material to include in the full depth areas, all planed materials including asphalt, cl2ab, and native (potentialy may include cobbles)dirt?

A2) Yes, if the material is "cold planed" then stock pile it at the storage area at PM 0.0. Cold planed materials may contain asphalt concrete, aggregate base and/or native soil. Stockpile management should be used to store like materials and place appropriate Best Management Practices. Cobbles or other debris that have not been cold planed should not be part of the stockpile. 17Mar11

Q3) There does not appear to be an item for place HMA (misc areas) although the plans call for the work. In addition, is it the intent on the OSD, FDD, DDP systems to be overlayed (need detail) where appropiate? If this is new work, then the existing drainage facilities have to be removed which also does not have an item. Please clarify.

A3) Refer to Special Provisions Amendments to the Standard Specification on page 150, Section 39-5.02 PAYMENT, "If there are no contract items for place hot mix asphalt dike and place hot mix asphalt...and the work is specified, full included in the contract price paid per ton for the hot mix asphalt designated in the Engineer's Estimate..." 21Mar11

Q4) Is there room on this stockpile location to accomidate the volume of material generated for this project?

A4) The location shown on the plans as "Stockpile Location" is a very sizeable area. It is recommended the contractor visit the site in person to understand the footprint of the Stockpile Location available for use. The bidder should determine a feasible plan to stockpile the volume of Cold Plane material as part of their bid. Bid Item 1. CONSTRUCTION SITE MANAGEMENT, and Bid Item 2. PREPARE WATER POLLUTION CONTROL PROGRAM, can be used to implement the effective handling, storage, use, and disposal practices within the project limits and including stockpiles.15Mar11

Q5) Is Contractor required to push up and stack this stockpile of material?

Q6) Has anyone calculated how high this stockpile will have to be for this location to hold the volume of material that will be trucked to it? If so, how high?

Q7) PM R0.06 to PM R0.35 Southbound requires a 40FT or 26FT wid, 2.4FT Cold Plane, 1.65FT of Base and .75FT of HMA. Although half width construction is suggested, a 12 hour window (6:00pm to 6:00am) is insufficient to complete the required work. CAN ONE LANE BE CLOSED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME?

Q9) Where 2.40' of material is to be removed by cold planing, what subgrade compaction will be required before Aggregate Base is laid?

A9) Where reconstructing the roadway with a new structural section it requires 95% compaction in accordance with Section 19-5.03 of the May 2006 Standard Specifications. 21Mar11

Q10) Why is lime required on a QC/QA project?

A10) Lime is required due to moisture sensitivity qualities of the material. 23Mar11

Q11) Can Liquid Anti-Strip be used of the Aggregate Properties are adaquate?

A11) No. The Department has specified the lime slurry method. 23Mar11
