Contract 06-0C5404
The responses to bidder's inquiries, unless incorporated into a formal addendem to the contract, are not a part of the contract and are provided for the bidder's convenience only. In some instances, the question and answer may represent a summary of the matters discussed rather than a word-for-word recitation. The availability or use of information provided in the responses to bidder's inquiries is not to be construed in any way as a waiver of the provisions of Section 2-1.03 of the Standard Specifications or any other provision of the contract, the plans, Standard Specifications or Special Provisions, nor to excuse the contractor from full compliance with those contract requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.
Q1) The Special Provisions require the grinding of the epoxy grit overlay for removal before the bridge deck treatment is applied. What materials can we expect to be found in the old epoxy overlay. If we can expect to find any heavy metals in the epoxy, the slurry that is generated could be considered hazardous. This could drastically increase the cost of the disposal foe the material as well as addtional costs of manifesting and hauling the material.
A1) Epoxy grit overlays are not expected to contain heavy metals or hazardous materials. Bid per the current contract bid documents.
Q2) The plans show removal by grinding the decks full width. The grinding equipment available are not capable of grinding full width. They can only grind within approximately 20 inches of any upright obstruction. What other method is acceptable for the removal of the epoxy overlay in the these areas?
A2) Limits of grinding shall be as shown on the plans. Smaller or more compact grinding machines may be required to perform the work. Bid per the current contract bid documents.
Q3) I am writing to inquire if you have a list of potential DVBE subs that I can contact to submit sub quotes to us for the above-referenced contract. I did the inquiry on the Caltrans website on 2/11, but the search results only came back with 2 names. Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
