Q1) The traffic handling plan, TH-1, shows the installation of 5 each message boards. Is the intent to leave these message boards up for the entire project or a portion of it?

A1) No, the intent is to use traffic handling plan TH-1 only when ramp(s) at the Route 1/101 separation at Las Cruces is(are) closed. 8Mar11


Q2) The specifications indicate that the new loops and piezo axle sensors units will be spliced in the pull box near the service pedestal. Will the conductors to the Piezo units be spliced to the existing conductors connected to the existing classification system inside the existing controller cabinet in the same pull box or is the contractor supplying a complete new classification unit including piezo units?

A2) Please reference Sheet E-1, Note #1 of the contract plans as it indicates where the existing DLC splices to new loop wires. In addition, the Special Provisions Section 10-3.05, under "Screened Transmission Cable" states that the STC shall not be spliced. Also, per Section 10-3.05, "Vehicle Classification Station," of the Special Provisions the work includes furnishing and installing a vehicle classification station (VCS) consisting of inductive loops detectors, piezo axle sensors, screened transmission cables, the required wiring and auxiliary equipment required for a fully functional system, and an existing Model 334 cabinet with an existing automated traffic counter (ATC) as shown on the plans and in conformance with these special provisions. 22Mar11


Q3) Is it the intent of Caltrans to pave the median crossovers/ turnpockets on this project, there are approximately 4 each? If so, are they paved with HMA Type A or RHMA-O-HB?

A3) Yes the turn pockets and median crossovers will be paved with RHMA-O-HB not HMA (Type A).24Mar11
