Q1) On plan sheet C-2, section A-A, Detail at Repair Existing Roadbed shows the total thickness of cold plane to be 0.2 feet. Shouldn't this thickness be 0.3', since this includes the 0.1' full width cold plane and the additional repair thickness of 0.2'?

A1)The maximum cold plane thickness of 0.2 feet shown on Section A-A on plan sheet C-2 is correct. 17Mar11


Q2) Plan sheet C-2, Construction Details, shows the Conform at Utilities detail for PM 26.29 to 26.77. Is is known if these utilities are at the proper finish grade? Unfortunately, this leaves the Contractor at a disadvantage having to match these utility lids and at the same time provide a smooth ride. These utilities should be lowered and then adjusted to provide the best paving product possible.

Q3) The special provisions say "Schedule cold planing activities so that not more than 2 days elapses" between grinding and paving. This would be extremely difficult because of the Repair Areas and Detector Loops which also have to be installed prior to the final lift of HMA Type A. Due to the Repair and Loop items, additional time will be required between grinding and final HMA paving.
