Q1) Are there cross sections available for this project? If so, how can I obtain them?

A1) Yes, call Coastal Reprographic Services at 805-543-5247.

Q2) Bid item #26 Fog Seal Coat has a quantity of 50 Tons. Per the plans the intent is to Fog Seal just the 5 ft shoulder in both directions, correct? If the Fog Seal Coat is intended for just the shoulders, then shouldn't the quantity of Emulsion calculated be closer to 5 Tons? Please advise.

A2) Yes, the plan is to Fog Seal just the 5 ft shoulder in both directions. Per the Standard Specificatios, Section 93, page 791, there is a spreading range from 0.02 to one gallon per square yard of surface. The Contractor shall provide a satisfactory method of accurately measuring the volume in the tanks at any time.

Q3) Since clearing and grubbing is required prior to placement of Item No. 20 Erosion Control(Drill Seed), can Caltrans delineate on the plans the areas in which the drill seed is to be applied so we can assess the extent of the required clearing? The entire median for the length of the project would be in excess of the 12 acres listed on the bid item list.

A3) The limits of clearing and grubbing shall conform to Section 10-1.20 "Clearing and Grubbing" of the Special Provisions which states "Vegetation shall be cleared and grubbed only within the excavation and embankment slope lines." Excavation and embankment slope lines are delineated on the plans.

Q4) On reconstruct mbgr. Are we to use new post & blocks or use old post and blocks?

A4) Per Standard Specification 15-2.05 RECONSTRUCTION Material from existing facilities are to be reused in the work.

Q5) Section 10-1.01 Order of Work states "Remove trees between August 31 and February 15." Will the project be supspended until August 31 or will the contractor be required to work around the trees and re-mobilize to remove them after August 15, 2010?

A5) In accordance with Section 14-6.02 , "Bird Protection" of the Amendments to the Standard Specifications, "Bird protection that causes a delay to the controlling activity is a condition unfavorable to the suitable prosecution of work as specified in Section 8-1.05, 'Temporary Suspension of Work'." Consideration of a suspension will only be given if there is a delay to the controlling operation.

Q6) Question 3 was regarding the clearing and grubbing required and paid for under item 20 EROSION CONTROL (DRILL SEED) which is not delineated on the plans. Specification section 10-1.26 EROSION CONTROL (DRILL SEED) states "Immediately prior to applying seed...,trash and debris and weeds must be removed." Please delineate these areas on the plans so that the extent of clearing can be evaluated.
