phone number (805) 543-5247

Q) Will Cal Trans provide a mix design for the CFIPR work or does the contractor have to provide one?

A) The Contractor will provide a mix design.

Q) If Cal Trans provides a mix design will all of the data be available to the contractor?

A) The Contractor will provide a mix design.

Q) Are there time requirements for when the coring / depth thickness verification of the foamed material is to be performed?

A) Yes

Q) What QC testing will the Vendor / Test Section require? Will the contractor performing the contract CFIPR work be required to provide QC testing listed under section 10-1.41 for each vendor during the Test Section work?

A) Please reference section 10-1.41, " Cold Foam In-place Recycling," of the Special Provisions. Yes, the Contractor will be required to perform process and quality control sampling and testing.

Q) The profile sheets (sheets 37-61) show the new profile grade different from the original profile grade at variable rates (not just a consistent 85mm as would be expected as a result of the new rubberized asphalt) Because the new profile does not match the existing profile (as shown on the profile plans), in addition to the fact that new shoulders are to be constructed that have cross slopes and profiles significantly different from the existing cross slopes and profiles, why is the contractor to reference the existing profile and cross slopes? Caltrans will need to provide finish grade stakes for all of the changes in the profile and the new shoulder anyway, why does the contractor need to reference the existing profile and put it back to within 12 or 15 mm if the new profile changes anyway?

A) Yes, the profile grade will be as per profile sheets 37-61 and grades shall be within allowable tolerances.

Q) If indeed it is necessary to have the contractor reference the existing profile and cross slope and to put it back to match the existing what is the tolerance, +/-15 mm or +/- 12 mm? The two above quoted sections from the specifications give two different tolerances.

A) The profile grade will be as per the profile sheets.

Q) What methodology do you use to determine the maximum density of the foamed materials during production?

A) Bid it as you see it.

Q) What is the CT 1098 test? Who will pay for this testing?

A) It's supposed to be CT 109, not CT 1098. When project related, the State absorbs the cost of 109 tests.

Q) Can I get a detailed description of how to CT 1098 will be performed in the recycling equipment & what the contractor is expected to provide.

A) Test methods are available at the following Caltrans website, http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/ctms/index.html

Q) Will the asphalt flow meter be used to measure the quantity of paving asphalt for payment or will delivery weight tags be used?

A) Please reference Section 92-1.05, "Measurement," of the Standard Specifications.
