The responses to bidder's inquiries, unless incorporated into a formal addendem to the contract, are not a part of the contract and are provided for the bidder's convenience only. In some instances, the question and answer may represent a summary of the matters discussed rather than a word-for-word recitation. The availability or use of information provided in the responses to bidder's inquiries is not to be construed in any way as a waiver of the provisions of Section 2-1.03 of the Standard Specifications or any other provision of the contract, the plans, Standard Specifications or Special Provisions, nor to excuse the contractor from full compliance with those contract requirements. Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.
Q1) Re: Object Marker Type N-5 The plans specify the object markers (Type N-5) to be mounted "back to back", both gates. The plans call for 6 ea. Should there be 12 each object markers instead of 6 each? Should there be a total of 15 signs (12 each object markers + 3 each R11-2)?
A1) Please submit a bid based on the work item quantities the Department shows for Unit Quote Items. If changes become necessary they will be addressed by proposed Contract Change Order.
Q2) Ref: Sheet C-1 of the plan sheets Please correct or verify the dimensions for the gates. They do not appear to be correct.
A2) There appears to be a typographical error. Gate post length should be 72" above the breakaway plate, not 7.2".
Q3) Please confirm if the gates are to be hot dipped galvanized after fabrication? If so it appears the project duration is to short. Prior to fabrication it would take one week to submit drawings for approval, then how long does the agency have to approve? Once approved it would take approximately one week to fabricate gates and another two weeks for hot dipped galvanizing and shippment. Then the team installing the gates will have to have time to install the new gates. Please confirm total project duration for the gate replacement and install?
A3) Section 75-1.05 "Galvanizing" of the Standard Specifications states, "Except for pregalvanized standard pipe, galvanizing of material 1/8 inch thick or thicker shall be performed after fabrication into the largest practical sections."
