Bidders are cautioned that subsequent responses or contract addenda may affect or vary a response previously given.


Q1) Are cross sections being made available?

A1) Cross sections are available as stated in Section 5-1.09, "Supplemental Project Information": http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/esc/oe/weekly_ads/index.php. 16Feb11.


Q2) There is no "Sprinkler Schedule" page in the plans. This is necessary to know type of sprinklers needed, riser type, swing joint type, pipe sizes, etc... Will one be forthcoming?

A2) Please refer to Irrigation Schedule LD-1 (Plan Sheet 124A), added by Addendum No. 1, dated March 22, 2011. 24Mar11.


Q3) Has Caltrans identified a suitable location for stockpiling of potentially contaminated soil (staging area or areas)? Please identify staging areas approved by the Engineer.

A3) Section 10-1.14, "Handling of Potentially Contaminated Aerially Deposited Lead Soil," of the Special Provisions requires the Contractor to submit a Sampling and Analysis Plan (SAP) for approval by the Engineer. The Contractor will propose locations for stockpiling and storage, for approval. 28Mar11.


Q4)Please provide the the ALD Site Investigation report for Kansas Avenue to Tuolumne Blvd, Modesto California project, STA 99 PM 15.1/17.1, TO #72, EA #10-0A671 dated June 2009.

A4) The ADL Site Investigation Report is referenced in Section 10-1.14, but is not provided as supplemental project information. It's the Contractor's responsibility to comply with "Applicable Rules and Regulations" based on a range of levels of lead found in soils near the project limits, which is provided in the special provision. 28Mar11.


Q5) If the potentially contaminated soil is to be stockpiled at each ramp, and with only having 3 weeks for ramp closures to accomplish the majority of the work, has Caltrans considered enough time for work to be accomplished while waiting for soil analysis and profiling reports to be completed without impacting the closure periods?

A5) Please bid in accordance with the contract requirements. 28Mar11.


Q6)The specs say price to include welded wire fabric, base rock and grout in sidewalk areas, however, details of the textured paving on sheet C-5 (page 37 of the plans) show .3' concrete on native with no call out for welded wire fabric. there also appears to be no callout for "sidewalk areas to be grouted" ?

A6) Special Provisions govern over Contract Plans. The requirements for textured paving, under Section 10-1.56 of the Special Provisions (Pages 146,147), state that welded wire fabric shall be placed in the textured paving areas and textured paving shall be grouted in the sidewalk areas. The contract price paid per square foot for minor concrete (textured paving) shall include full compensation for furnishing welded wire fabric, where required, and for doing all the work involved in constructing textured paving, including grouted areas. 29Mar11.


Q7) The typical cross section on X-5 for Sta "C" 67+60 to Sta "C" 70+11.34 shows a Conc Barrier (Type 60) with vertical sides the same width as the exist OC column. The only detail given for a Conc Barrier (Type 60) on this set of contract plans is RSP A76A which has battered sides. Please clarify the detail for this section of barrier including steel plates if any at the existing column(s).

A7) Refer to the Standard Plans, Concrete Barrier Type 60 Series, for details not shown on the contract plans. Revised Standard Plan A76A has been included in the contract plans (Sheet 135 of the plans). 29Mar11.
