Yolo 16 and Kentucky Avenue Signalized Intersection

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Install a signalized intersection to provide safety improvements and enhance traffic operations at the intersection of State Route 16 and Kentucky Avenue in Woodland, CA.

PROJECT BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Within a three-year period, 10 of 11 collisions at this intersection were broadsides.  Eight of 10 broadsides occurred in 2004. Three warrants (requirements) were met for installation of a traffic signal (or other appropriate countermeasure).

The Department in partnership with the City of Woodland and Yolo County agreed that a signalized intersection is the preferred alternative.

Three Alternatives considered:
  • Signalization of Intersection: Preferred Alternative
  • Installing a Roundabout: Considered but dropped due to lack of support from the public, the City of Woodland and Yolo County.
    (What is a Roundabout?)
  • 4-way stop sign: Considered but dropped due to lack of support and does not meet the operational improvement needs.
