I-5Santa Ana Freeway Interstate 5 (I-5) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Improvement (0C890) Project (SR-55 to SR-57)

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in cooperation with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is proposing to improve Interstate 5 (I‑5) between State Route 55 and State Route 57, within the city of Santa Ana with the addition of one high-occupancy-vehicle (HOV) lane in each direction thus providing additional HOV capacity and reducing freeway congestion.

In addition to the HOV lane improvements, the project proposes to remove the southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp HOV structures at Main Street. All of the proposed improvements would be constructed within the existing Caltrans and/or local road right-of-way limits. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2018 and be completed in 2020. The project is currently in the design phase.
