Steer Clear: Major Improvement Projects will Require Weekend Closures on I-15 and I-805 this Summer
SAN DIEGO – Two of the region’s busiest freeways will be shut down for construction work over two separate weekends this summer, and motorists are being urged to steer clear of these areas during the closure periods.
Motorists will be detoured around an approximately 3-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) on Saturday, July 27, from 7 p.m. through 4 a.m. Monday, July 29. The closure will be from State Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway to Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard/Poway Road for drainage improvements. The northbound lanes of I-15 will remain open.
Interstate 805 (I-805) will be closed for 7 miles in both directions on Sunday, August 18, from 3 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Monday, August 19. The closure will be between State Route 54 and State Route 905, so crews can demolish the East Palomar Street Bridge to make way for a new direct access ramp (DAR). The DAR will offer a convenient way for carpoolers and transit to enter the Express Lanes currently under construction on I-805 and access the future East Palomar Transit Station and Park & Ride.
“Safety is our main concern during these freeway closures,” said Caltrans District 11 Director Laurie Berman. “That’s why we are urging citizens to steer clear of these construction areas and avoid causing traffic congestion.”
