Motorists Reminded Not To Cross Carpool Lanes’ Double White Lines
SAN DIEGO – Motorists may notice a difference in freeway striping next week when the new carpool lanes open to traffic on Interstate 805 in South County. That’s because the carpool lanes will be separated from the main freeway lanes by solid double white lines.
Caltrans Information Officer Edward Cartagena said the double white lines are the new standard and serve the same purpose of separating traffic as the double yellow lines. “In either case, it is illegal for vehicles to cross the solid double lines, whether yellow or the new white,” he said. “Motorists need to be aware because they can be cited.”
Caltrans expects the new carpool lanes to be opened during the next week weather permitting in both directions on I-805, from State Route 94 in San Diego to East Naples Street in Chula Vista.
