Improvements Made to Travel Times Displayed on Freeway System
SAN DIEGO – The estimated travel times displayed on electronic message signs during commute hours will soon be upgraded to reflect times on not just one freeway, but from one freeway to another, according to Caltrans.
The Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS), which displays estimated travel times on overhead freeway changeable message signs, received a software upgrade providing an enhanced level of service to motorists.
This new version will display cross-route travel times, which was not possible prior to the upgrade. The system is being tested this week, and if successful, will be displayed permanently. Estimated travel times are displayed during peak commute hours.
The ATMS debuted in 2006, and was put in place as a means to better assist motorists in estimating their arrival time to their destination, or changing their route if they choose to do so.Follow @SDCaltrans on Twitter for timely information about state highways in San Diego and Imperial counties.
