Apparent Low Bidder for Cabrillo Bridge Retrofit Project
SAN DIEGO – Caltrans announced that Disney Construction Inc. based out of Burlingame, California is the apparent low bidder for the Laurel Street Bridge Overcrossing Project on State Route 163 (SR-163). The Laurel Street Overcrossing is also known as the Cabrillo Bridge.
The project will retrofit the Laurel Street Overcrossing for seismic strength and improve its structural integrity as well as replace aged steel and concrete as needed. The work will extend bridge life for 50 years.
Once the bid is awarded, construction is expected to begin this fall and end summer of 2014 -- in time for the Balboa Park 2015 Centennial Celebration.
Pedestrians and vehicles will have full access to the bridge except for a four-month period beginning in January 2014. Pedestrian access will be uninterrupted. The portion of SR-163 under the bridge will be minimally impacted.
