Caltrans Conducts Traffic Counts on Brawley Bypass
SAN DIEGO – Caltrans staff from the Transportation Planning Division will be conducting a traffic count study on the northwest end of the State Route 111/SR-78 Brawley Bypass on Wednesday, March 27, from 6 a.m.-6 p.m.
Since the opening of the Brawley Bypass last fall, Caltrans has discovered that commercial trucks are still traveling through the city of Brawley rather than using the new bypass expressway. The data collected will be used to gauge truck traffic going through the city, and to encourage truckers to start using the bypass. Truckers can save a half hour and avoid traffic in downtown Brawley by using the Brawley Bypass.
During this time period, motorists may see crews in hard hats and vests sitting or standing on the bypass while conducting the traffic counts.
Caltrans would like to remind motorists to drive alertly and cautiously, and to not be distracted by the traffic count crews.
