State Route 163 Closures for Night Work
SAN DIEGO – State Route 163 (SR-163) will be closed nightly Monday through Thursday from 10 until 5 the next morning as Caltrans construction crews continue setting up concrete barriers and restriping the roadway. The work is part of the ongoing State Route 163 (SR-163) Laurel Street/Cabrillo Bridge Retrofit Project expected to be completed by the end of next summer.
Full closures will take place Monday and Tuesday nights on southbound SR-163 from Interstate 8 (I-8) to the Laurel Street overcrossing also known as the Cabrillo Bridge, including the westbound and eastbound I-8 connector ramps to southbound SR-163. The following ramps to southbound SR-163 will also be closed: Robinson Avenue on-ramp, Washington Street on- and off-ramps, and the University Avenue off-ramp.
Signs will be placed directing motorists traveling southbound SR-163 to take the westbound I-8 connector onto the southbound I-5 on-ramp to access northbound SR-163.
Northbound SR-163 will be closed Wednesday and Thursday night at A Street and 11th Avenue to just north of the Laurel Street overcrossing. The connector from northbound and southbound I-5 to northbound SR-163 will also be closed during the same time period as well as the Park Boulevard on-ramp to northbound SR-163.
Motorists may travel north on 11th Avenue to the northbound I-5 on-ramp, to the eastbound I-8 connector, to access SR-163 in both directions.
