Mission Bay Drive On-ramp to Northbound I-5 Closed Nightly for Safety Improvements
SAN DIEGO – Motorists should expect some out of direction travel as Caltrans makes safety improvements to the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5 (I-5). The ramp will be closed most nights and some weekend early mornings starting this Sunday through January 2014.
The improvements will require the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp to be closed during non-peak traffic hours: Mondays through Thursdays, from 8 p.m.-5 a.m., Saturdays from 3-8 a.m. and Sundays from 3-9 a.m. and 8 p.m.-5 a.m.
The suggested detour for motorists traveling from the beach communities is to drive eastbound on Grand Avenue or Garnet Avenue to southbound Mission Bay Drive and onto southbound I-5, continue on southbound 1-5, exit at Clairemont Drive and then to the Clairemont Drive on-ramp to northbound I-5.
For motorists traveling from the community of Clairemont, the suggested detour is to drive westbound on Balboa Avenue/Garnet Avenue to the loop on-ramp to southbound I-5. Continue on southbound I-5 and exit at Clairemont Drive and then to the Clairemont Drive on-ramp to northbound I-5.
The safety improvements include construction of a concrete barrier, shoulder repaving, striping and drainage improvements on the Mission Bay Drive on-ramp to about one mile south of the State Route 52 connector ramp. If you have questions, please contact the Caltrans Public Information Office at (619) 688-6670.
