DARmageddon I-805 Closure Will Have Huge Impact On Traffic

California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) District Director Laurie Berman and Captain Matt Guthrie, San Diego Area Commander for the California Highway Patrol. Spanish-speaking project members will also be available for interviews.

The duo will outline the anticipated traffic impacts coming as part of the DARmageddon closure of Interstate 805, between State Route 54 and Route 905. This 14 hour, full freeway closure will take place on Sunday, Aug. 18 starting at 3 p.m. through Monday, Aug. 19 at 5 a.m.

Motorists will be detoured around an approximately 3-mile stretch of southbound Interstate 15 (I-15) on Saturday, July 27, from 7 p.m. through 4 a.m. Monday, July 29. The closure will be from State Route 56/Ted Williams Parkway to Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard/Poway Road for drainage improvements.

Interstate 805 (I-805) will be closed for 7 miles in both directions on Sunday, August 18, from 3 p.m. through 5 a.m. on Monday, August 19. The closure will be between State Route 54 and State Route 905, so crews can demolish the East Palomar Street Bridge to make way for a new direct access ramp (DAR). The DAR will offer a convenient way for carpoolers and transit to enter the Express Lanes currently under construction on I-805 and access the future East Palomar Transit Station and Park & Ride.

Monday, July 12, at 1:30 p.m.

This event will take place at a small lawn area along the west side of Plaza Bonita Road, opposite the northwest parking lot of the Westfield Plaza Bonita Mall, in National City. The I-805/SR-54 interchange is the backdrop. Street parking is available.

The two speakers will be available for interviews. Display boards will show the freeway closure limits, detours and web links of where to look for more critical closure and project information.
