Caltrans to Close the Nordahal Road Bridge for Weekend Demolition
SAN DIEGO –The Nordahal Road Bridge over State Route 78 (SR-78) will be closed for demolition work beginning 9 p.m. Friday, July 20 to 5 a.m. Monday,July 23. The closure includes the SR-78 eastbound and westbound on- and off-ramps at Nordhal Road. SR-78 will remain open in both directions.
Construction crews from the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) have built a temporary bridge for pedestrians and bicyclists that will remain open during the closure.
Traffic on surrounding streets is expected to be heavy. Businesses in the area will remain open. Caltrans will place Changeable Messages Sign (CMS) on eastbound and westbound SR-78 and permanent CMS on interstates 5 and 15 in the North County area will also be activated.
Caltrans warns that it may become noisy at times and those walking or biking may experience a slight delay crossing the bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists should still cross at the signalized intersection to avoid construction equipment on the bridge deck. Every precaution will be taken to lessen the impacts to area residents.
