Traffic Switch Set for State Route 76
SAN DIEGO –Today the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced a major traffic switch for the State Route 76 (SR-76) Middle Project. Beginning Friday at 9 p.m. work will begin to shift all eastbound and westbound traffic onto the recently completed San Luis Rey River Bridge and to the new future eastbound only lanes from just west of Olive Hill Road to South Mission Road, all lanes of SR-76 will remain open.
Access to East Vista Way to and from SR-76 will be limited to residents only from Friday at 9 p.m. to mid morning Sunday. All other vehicles will use the following detours:
- To access westbound SR-76 take northbound East Vista Way, left on Osborne Street to North Santa Fe Avenue to westbound SR-76.
- To access eastbound SR-76 take northbound East Vista Way, right on Gopher Canyon Road to little Gopher Canyon Road to Old River Road to eastbound SR-76.
- From SR-76 to East Vista Way take the detour in reverse. Signs will be posted to assist motorists around the closure.
On Sunday, April 8 at 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday access to Old River Road from SR-76 will be limited to residential traffic. Vehicles traveling westbound on Old River Road will take Little Gopher Canyon Road, right onto Gopher Canyon Road to East Vista Way to SR-76. To access Old River Road from SR-76 take the detour in reverse.
For the next nine months construction crews will build the westbound only lanes. By the end of the year SR-76 will be expanded to include a four-lane conventional highway from Melrose Drive to South Mission Road.
