Bridge Work Scheduled For South County Highways
SAN DIEGO – Work is scheduled to begin on Monday on a $1.1 million dollar project to clean and treat bridge decks on South County highways. Closures are scheduled for various bridges and freeway connectors along Interstate 5 and I-805 and State Route 15, SR-54, SR-75, SR-94 and SR-905. Work will take place between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. and will continue Sunday through Thursday nights through May.
According to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the deck treatment operation is dependent upon weather conditions including ambient air, surface temperature and relative humidity. All three conditions must be within a specific range in order to apply the sealant. Conditions at each location will determine whether work will be performed on any particular night.
“In the coastal areas, these can vary greatly from one location to another. We won’t know whether conditions will allow us to proceed until we are at the location,” said Project Construction Engineer Michael Moen.
Detours will be available for motorists at all locations that are closed for construction.
