Major Freeway, Ramp Closures Planned For Monday Night Near Border
SAN DIEGO – The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) has planned major freeway closures on both southbound Interstate 5 and I-805 in San Ysidro starting Monday night, according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
Southbound I-5 will be closed down to one lane from Dairy Mart Road to the U.S.-Mexico Border from Monday at 10 p.m. to Tuesday at 10 a.m. Southbound I-805 from just south of State Route 905 to I-5 will be closed down to one lane during the same time.
Ramp closures are also planned during the same time period include Camino De La Plaza on-ramp to southbound I-5; the southbound I-5 off-ramp to Via De San Ysidro Boulevard; the East San Ysidro Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-805 and the southbound I-805 off-ramp to East San Ysidro Boulevard.
Fixed and portable electronic message signs will alert motorists of the approaching closures. Traffic delays are expected.
GSA requested the closures to accommodate work underway in anticipation of a major traffic switch at the border crossing in early November.
