Historic "James House," Vacant Lots to be Sold at Public Auction
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is selling the “James House” – a historic home located at 8336 Golden Avenue, Lemon Grove. Caltrans purchased this home as part of its right of way acquisition for a freeway project on State Route 125. The home is now surplus to the state’s needs and will be sold along with two vacant lots in La Mesa and Spring Valley through public oral auction at the Caltrans District Office at 4050 Taylor Street Thursday, Nov. 8. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
The James House was built in 1931 and was designed by noted San Diego architect, Frank Hope Sr. The home is an excellent example of Monterey Colonial architecture. The 2,770 square feet home sits on a lot of more than half an acre. It features four bedrooms, three upstairs and one downstairs, three and a half bathrooms, a basement and two-car garage. The master bedroom features balconies at the front and rear. The house qualifies for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
Caltrans will hold open-house tours on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 1– 4 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to noon.
