Northbound SR-163 Through Park Closed Saturday Morning
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announced that State Route 163 (SR-163) through Balboa Park will be closed Saturday morning to accommodate the first “Finish Chelsea’s Run 5K Run/Walk.”
This 1.25-mile stretch of the freeway and the ramps from Interstate 5 to northbound SR-163 will be closed 6-10 a.m. Motorists normally taking SR-163 to head north and east may continue north on I-5 and take the connector ramp to eastbound I-8. Southbound SR-163 through the park will remain open.
The Chelsea’s Light Foundation planned the benefit run to mark the one-year anniversary of the 17-year-old Poway High senior who was murdered while on an after-school run on a trail in the community of Rancho Beranardo. The run will help fund scholarships and a peer counseling program.
