Heavy Storm to Hamper Driving Conditions

SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is urging motorists to drive with extra care this weekend due to the anticipated storm. Weather reports are predicting heavy rains for the area and lower than normal snow elevations.

Motorists that don’t live in the mountains should avoid the area to leave the road clear for residents and maintenance crews. If traveling to mountain areas is necessary, drivers should carry chains and be aware that emergency personal may restrict access to this area at any time during the storm.

Caltrans is recommending motorists slow down when driving in unfavorable weather conditions and that headlights must be turned on when windshield wipers are activated.

“This may be some of the worst weather conditions we’ve seen in some time.  This would be a good weekend to stay home and stay safe,” said Public Information Officer Hayden Manning.

Updated road conditions can be found online at 511sd.com  or by calling 511.
