Caltrans Puts Former Office Complex On Auction Block in January
SAN DIEGO – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will put its former office complex at the corner of Taylor and Juan streets in Old Town on the auction block in January.
The environmental document has been circulated and approved, clearing the way for a pair of open houses in December and the open bid auction in January. The former complex consists of three major buildings totaling 115,735 square feet and sitting on a nearly 2.5-acre rectangular commercial property situated at the gateway to Old Town San Diego.
The open houses are set for this morning and Dec. 13, from 10-11 a.m. at the property located at 2829 Juan Street. The auction will take place Jan. 25, with registration at 9 a.m. at the current Caltrans Office Complex across the street at 4050 Taylor St. Bidding starts at 10 a.m.
The former Caltrans Office Complex was opened in the summer of 1953, and was expanded in 1958 and again in 1964. In the early 1990s, it was unable to accommodate the workforce and subsequently the department was forced to lease additional office space throughout the county.
The building was vacated in 2006 when construction on new office space across the street was complete. As a result, the former complex was declared excess property. The opening bid for the sale property will be $4.5 million.
Caltrans encourages anyone interested in this commercial development opportunity to attend the open houses and RSVP in advance by contacting Pamela.Lemar@dot.ca.gov.
They may also contact Pamela Lemar at (619) 688-6942 or Lena Young at (619) 688-3349 (Lena.Young@dot.ca.gov) for more information. The former office complex is also featured on the website: dot.ca.gov/property.
