I-15 Express Lanes Slip Ramp at SR 56 to Permanently Close
SAN DIEGO – Starting Friday, Nov. 4, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will permanently close an exit ramp connecting the Interstate 15 (I-15) Express Lanes to the main lanes at State Route 56 (SR 56)/Ted Williams Parkway.
The exit ramp was constructed in 2008 to allow southbound Express Lane users to exit into the southbound I-15 main lanes when the old, reversible Express Lanes were open for northbound peak hour traffic. Now that the Express Lanes run in both directions, 24 hours-a-day, seven days-a-week, this ramp is no longer needed.
The closure will eliminate one of the two outside lane drops in this area, improving the morning commute. The second lane drop will be eliminated by the end of this year when work to add an additional lane between SR 56 and Poway Road is completed.
Motorists accustomed to exiting this ramp to reach the Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard/Poway Road and Scripps Poway Parkway/Mercy Road interchanges will have to exit the Express Lanes just south of Camino Del Norte.
For more information on this closure or the entire I-15 Express Lanes project, call the project information hotline at (866) 890-1397 or log-on to www.KeepSanDiegoMoving.com.
