Weekend Ramp Closures at Interstate 15 and SR 56/Ted Williams Parkway
SAN DIEGO – Three ramps will be closed from Friday, Oct. 21, at 9 p.m. to Monday, Oct. 24, at 5 a.m. at Interstate 15 (I-15) and State Route 56 (SR 56), according to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The ramp closures are needed for construction work to prepare for an additional northbound lane around the I-15/SR 56 interchange, which will help traffic flow in the future. Detours will be posted to help motorists reach their destinations despite the closures.
The closures include:
- The I-15 northbound off-ramp to SR 56/Ted Williams Parkway. I-15 northbound motorists needing to exit to eastbound Ted Williams Parkway will be detoured to exit farther north at Carmel Mountain Road. Heading east on Carmel Mountain Road, they will then turn south on Rancho Carmel Drive until it intersects with Ted Williams Parkway. Motorists wanting to exit on westbound SR 56, meanwhile, will be detoured at the I-15 exit at Poway Road/Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard and head west on Rancho Peñasquitos Boulevard before accessing SR 56.
- The eastbound SR 56 on-ramp to I-15 north. Motorists wanting to enter I-15 northbound from the SR 56 will be detoured on Ted Williams Parkway to turn north on Rancho Carmel Drive. They then they will turn west on Carmel Mountain Road to reach the I-15 northbound on-ramp.
- The westbound Ted Williams Parkway on-ramp to I-15 north. Motorists seeking to access northbound I-15 from Ted Williams Parkway will be detoured north on Rancho Carmel Drive before driving west on Carmel Mountain Road to access the northbound I-15 on-ramp.
Construction crews will use the weekend closure to repave across and adjacent to the three ramps as well as relocate construction barriers. Work is taking place over the weekend to cause as little traffic disruption as possible.
